Supporting Jamie’s Recovery Beyond the Injury

Motorbike accident in June 2020 resulting in multiple serious injuries

The Challenge
Jamie was referred to us following a serious motorbike accident that left him with multiple injuries, including a damaged liver, fractured ribs, a punctured lung, and significant trauma to his right leg and hand.

After the accident, Jamie moved in with his parents temporarily, as he needed support with day-to-day care. What was meant to be a short-term arrangement became long-term due to ongoing rehabilitation challenges and financial constraints,
preventing him from securing a place of his own.

His recovery was further complicated by a persistent foot wound that repeatedly broke down, delaying progress and surgery. By late 2022, there was concern that amputation might be necessary. Jamie remained under NHS care to retain access to his trauma team.
Our Approach
In early 2023, Jamie began to disengage from rehab, missing physiotherapy and becoming increasingly withdrawn. After several attempts, he agreed to meet one of our case managers and shared how difficult it had become to live without
independence. Despite receiving an interim payment to secure housing, his employment status meant he was routinely overlooked for rental viewings — despite trying hundreds of times.

Working with his solicitor and insurer, we secured additional support so Jamie could:

• Work with a specialist property team to secure a suitable rental
• Access expert welfare benefits advice to stabilise his financial situation
• Receive practical and emotional support throughout the transition

Jamie moved into his new home in August 2023 — a major turning point in his recovery.
The Results
Once settled in his own space, Jamie’s mental health and motivation improved. In November 2023, he underwent long-awaited surgery, and by April 2024, he resumed rehabilitation. We sourced a personal trainer with a private studio to help him rebuild strength and confidence in a space where he felt comfortable.

His legal claim settled in May 2024. By January 2025, Jamie had purchased a home in need of renovation and planned to start a small business focused on garden and property work — which he successfully launched by August.
Why it Worked

Jamie’s story is a powerful example of holistic rehabilitation in action. For him, recovery wasn’t just about physical healing — it was about regaining his independence, purpose, and a sense of control over his life. Supporting those broader needs was essential to achieving a successful outcome.
