Join us for our "Courage To Think Beyond The Obvious," study day, supported by Proactive Prosthetics and CPPS, dedicated to Caroline Penny-Smith.
The event will be held at the Village Hotel South Leeds on September 5th, 2024 and start at 9am for drinks and networking and finish around 5pm with a drinks reception. More details to come closer to the time.
Caroline qualified as an occupational therapist in 1990. She started work in the NHS firstly in London before moving to Yorkshire to work in Leeds and then Dewsbury. Her passion was neurology and neurodisability mainly with children and young adults.
She dipped her feet into independent practice at the end of the 90’s and then alongside having her 3 daughters she set up her own company which evolved into CPPS Expert care and Occupational Therapy Limited. Caroline was a treating occupational therapist and an expert witness who loved the challenge of complex cases.
In founding CPPS Caroline created a company with an ethos of high-quality compassionate care, delivering creative and solution focussed client centred therapy that makes a difference. Caroline built up a team where individuals were valued and supported to develop.
Caroline will be remembered as a truly kind person who would go the extra mile for clients and colleagues. She knew how to have fun and wanted others around her to be happy and enjoying life too. She was passionate about occupational therapy and balanced this with a busy family life supporting her daughters to get the most from life.
Sadly, Caroline was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2023, and she lost her fight with cancer in January 2024. Caroline will be eternally missed but the ethos she developed will be her legacy and will live on in the team’s work supporting clients to meet their goals and making a difference to people’s lives.

I first worked with Caroline in 2012. She was the OT on some of my most complex cases. Working with her was always an absolute dream. She was a wonderful OT, and she had a huge heart. I always thought of her as a glowing example of the best in health care professionals.
In 2022 she let me know to say she wanted her company to be her legacy, and to provide the type of support and reports that would make it easier for both the rehabilitation and litigation process. She also wanted to grow a fully employed team, rather than relying solely on associates. Our values aligned so much, that when we started to consider putting on a study day, I immediately wanted to have Caroline involved. Unfortunately, before I spoke to her about this, Jessica let me know about her diagnosis.
Having lost my Auntie Pat to pancreatic cancer, I knew she had precious little time to spend with her family, time she had to thoroughly embrace. I kept in touch by text, and when it felt right, I told her about the study day, and that I wanted to be able to have CPPS involved to showcase excellence in occupational therapy. She loved the idea.
