Being independent

When you've sustained a significant injury or injuries it may feel like you will be reliant on help forever. But that is not necessarily the case. If you are open to trying things, we at Bridge can help you learn to adapt to how you do things, always with the aim of maximizing independence. Sometimes simple solutions can be found, such as re-arranging furniture, or simple gadgets to assist you with doing things. Other times more specialist input is required, such as provision of wheelchairs, re-designing of bathrooms or construction of ramps.

One of the greatest limitations to being independent following injury is a lack of imaging how you might be able to do something. Problem solving rather than problem finding. Things may not be exactly the same as they were before following a significant injury, but with creative problem solving they don't have to be significantly worse.
